District Championships Road Race
June 10, 2007Posted In Event, Cycling, Road
The Kern Wheelmen are hosting the district championships road race June 10th. at Panorama Drive with a course that goes out and back to Hart Park. Many of you may want to race in your hometown so heres the details.
If you have a license and are a Cat 5 of any age you are still going to have to race the one and only Cat 5 open race. This is also the category for one day riders but you will have to pay $10 for a one day license. The field limit size is 50….that’s it!! I can think of 50 people right now not counting out of towners. So, I saved 15 slots on the race entry form for whomever. Do not call me or hit me up race day for an entry. It’s not my rule, it’s USA Cycling’s rule.
DO NOT enter via active.com! Bring your entries to me at Action Sports. The flyer can be found at the shop or other bike shops. It is also online at kernwheelmen.org.
Any questions let me know. Why is there no master 5’s categories? Not enough time in the day to fit them all in and this is a champs. race and champs races are for categories 1-4. Next year we will be able to offer a few more categories.
Thanks and we can always use a few volunteers for various areas. If you are interested contact me (Sam Ames) or Earl Norcross. At the very least please come out and support the event!
Summer Series 5k Races Coming Up

The Bakersfield Track Club Summer Series of 5k Races is starting in June. This looks to be a great event for racing over the summer.
Sandbaggers beware!
Summer Series 5k - 6 Races!
Posted In Event, Running
Start on Alfred Harrell Hwy across from CALM. Registration from 6:15pm to 6:50pm - Race begins at 7:00 pm.

Map
- Entry Fees
- Non-BTC members - 6 race series $25 or $5 per event
- BTC members - 6 race series $20 or $4 per event
- Students - $3 per event
- Special New Member Fee - Join BTC ($20 annual fee) and first race if Free!
- T-shirts
- Each runner must run 3 races once a handicap is established in order to earn a race shirt.
- Awards
- Each runner must compete in three races once a handicap is established to qualify for awards. There will be awards given for overall top ten (best cumulative points in 3 races), and for the top 3 scratch times for male and female.
This year’s awards party will be held at the Pizza Market on Rosedale Hwy for 6:30pm to 8:00pm on September 6th. All participants and their families are welcome. BTC buys the pizza and pop.
Your Handicap On your very first time out, you will be a “scratch runner,” or a runner without a handicap. Scratch runners will be given a slip of paper indicating a 15 minute handicap (7:15 pm starting time).
The time run for the 5K this first time will be compared to a 30 minute benchmark. If you run longer than 30 minutes, you will earn a negative handicap (a 34:17 5K will result in a -4:17 handicap and you will begin your next race of the series at 4:17 before 7pm). If you run faster than 30 minutes, you will earn a positive handicap (a 22:51 5K will result in a 7:09 handicap and you will begin your next race at 7minutes and 9 seconds after 7pm).
The idea is that if everyone runs the exact same time next run, we all finish together at 7:30. That never happens. First one in wins. Best points goes to most improved runner.
Sandbaggers A sandbagger is a person who purposely runs slower in early races in order to show improvement in later runs. We have rules for you. If you show a 17% improvement your time will be adjusted according to some complicated mathematical formula and your placing will be altered.
